FDA: Albion Advanced Nutrition has taken its safety status to another level. Albion is systematically showing that its patented, totally reacted, nutritionally functional mineral amino acid chelates are safe for mineral supplementation. The safety data necessary to prove this is substantial. Albion has qualified Ferrochel® iron for self affirmation as Generally Regarded as Safe (GRAS) by the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) by producing an extensive array of independent toxicology and efficacy studies that have been reviewed by food safety experts. These experts concluded that Ferrochel® iron met the appropriate specifications to be considered GRAS for food fortification. The panel found Ferrochel to have no observed adverse effect level (NOAEL) of greater than 100 mg of iron/kg bw/day. This is an astounding safety level for any iron ingredient, let alone one that has been shown to have the high level of bioavailability and effectiveness seen in the research on Ferrochel® iron. EFSA: The European Food Safety Authority or EFSA in a written procedure adopted 6 January 2006 has declared Albion's Ferrochel® iron to be a safe and bioavailable as a food supplement and in foods for particular nutritional uses. This ruling paves the way for full approval in the EFSA's listing of substances approved for Particular Nutritional Uses (PARNUTS), Food Supplements and Fortified Foods. This opinion sets the standard under which future applications will be evaluated because it is the first chelate to be formally reviewed by EFSA/SCF for nutritional purposes. Once again, Albion's chelated mineral technology leads the industry in safety, bioavailability, and quality. Read the official EFSA opinion. |
